What happens at Orientation?

College and Technical Programs Overview

New Student Orientation begins with an overview of TSTC Marshall's services and policies to help you make an easy transition to college life. This is your opportunity to receive important information about the admissions process, financial aid, business office procedures, housing, library, distance learning, the learning community and learner support services. Most importantly, New Student Orientation provides the opportunity for you to meet one on-one with your Associate Dean, Program Chair, and faculty members. You will receive information about your degree plan, the courses required, and available degree-specific career opportunities.

This orientation is mandatory for all new students at TSTC Marshall; new students will not be allowed to register for classes unless they attend orientation.

Registration for Classes

After meeting with an advisor to complete your schedule, you will register for courses, take ID pictures, secure parking permits, visit the bookstore for textbooks, and pay your statement and/or make payment arrangements.

Classes fill up quickly; reserve your place at orientation today to get the classes you need and the best schedule possible!

What are the requirements to attend Orientation?

  1. Be admitted to TSTC.
  2. Take the THEA (formerly TASP) or equivalent placement test BEFORE orientation.
  3. Students who are exempt from the THEA must provide official documentation such as SAT/ACT/TAAS or TAKS scores.

What about testing requirements?

Placement test scores must be received by TSTC Marshall before a student can be advised and/or registered. If you have not tested, there is opportunity to take the Alternative THEA (Accuplacer) on the Marshall campus. The fee for the Accuplacer test is $25.00. For more testing information or testing dates, contact Admissions and Records at (903) 935-1010.
