Online Courses We are pleased that you are considering online courses at TSTC Marshall. If you have never taken an online course before, it is important that you understand the unique requirements for success before making the final decision to enroll. Because we want you to be successful in your online experience at TSTC Marshall, we need to be sure you fully understand what is involved in taking an online course. Therefore, you must complete the following New Online Student Orientation before registering for an online course at TSTC Marshall. NEW ONLINE STUDENT ORIENTATION The Director of Distance Learning at TSTC Marshall welcomes you as a potential new online student. To ensure that you will be successful in an online course, you must complete the following FIVE STEP orientation program. You will learn whether your learning style is compatible to online learning, whether you possess the computer skills needed to be successful, and whether the computer you plan to use meets minimum technical specifications. You will also learn about all of the student services at TSTC Marshall that will be available to you as an online student. Once you have all of the information from this orientation program, you will be ready to make the decision whether or not an online course is for you. Step One:
Learning Style Assessment Successful online students possess a particular set of learning characteristics. Click on the step one link to take the ten-question survey to see if your learning style is conducive to online learning. Step Two:
Technology Skills Assessment Because online courses are computer-based, online students must have good computer skills. Click on the step two link to take the Technology Skills Assessment designed to help you determine if you have the required computer knowledge and skills to be a successful online student. Computer Requirements Now that you know if you have the learning style and computer skills to be successful, let's see if the computer you plan to use meets the minimum technical requirements for an online course. Click on the link for step three. If you do not have a personal computer, you can use a TSTC computer in any open lab on campus to take your online course.
Step Four: Student Support Services As a TSTC Marshall online student, you will have access to a wide variety of student support services. Click on the link for step four. Read through the description of these services and complete the post-quiz at the end designed to check your understanding of these services. You now have the information needed to decide if an online course is right for you.
