Tips and Techniques for Online Success

  1. On Track!

Log in EVERY DAY starting on the FIRST day of class. Believe it or not, instructors keep track of how many times students log in and for how long. It works just like attending class on-campus. In addition, make time daily to work on your assignments. Dont get left behind.

  2. Speak Up!

Contact the Department of Distance Learning (903) 923-3302 IMMEDIATELY if you are having problems accessing the course or do not understand the online process. There is no way that TSTC Marshall knows when you are having trouble ATTENDING class unless you tell us.

  3. Raise your hand!

Much like raising your hand in class, feel free to communicate as much as possible with your instructor. If you are having difficulty with your course or assignments, make sure to contact the instructor and let him/her know. In an online course, instructors never know if you have a puzzled look on your face.

  4. Participate!

Participate in classroom discussions and postings with other students as much as possible. Most instructors weigh these activities heavily. In addition to better grades, you'll be able to meet other students from across Texas.

  5. Take it Seriously!

Your online course counts for or against your GPA at TSTC Marshall. Online courses through the Virtual College of Texas are TSTC Marshall courses and the grade will be posted on your TSTC transcript. If you find that you need to drop the course, it is YOUR responsibility to do so BEFORE the 12th (census) class day or a grade of an F will unfortunately have to be assigned.

  6. Mind your manners!

Be polite and respectful of others online. There is a real person on the other side of your computer. So remember that when chatting/posting online, non-verbal expressions are non existent; therefore, the person at the other end does not know if a comment is made in a joking manner.
