Step Four: Student Support Services and the Library

Bookstore

Whether purchasing your textbooks through the TSTC Marshall Bookstore or online from another source, the key is to get your materials early and be ready for class on the first day.  Some books will take up to three weeks to receive from the publisher.  The TSTC Bookstore is located in the South Building.  You can also contact them at (903) 923-3220


Counseling and Advisement

Professional counselors are available to discuss personal, social, educational, and career concerns. The Counseling Center also assists and advises students regarding programs and requirements.  They are located in the South Building Room 437.  You can also contact them at (903) 923-3375


Internet and Computer Access

If you need Internet and computer access, please call the Department of Distance Learning (903) 923-3302, and we will find a computer lab on campus you can use.  You can also access the computers in the Library with a valid TSTC Marshall ID.  You can pick up your student ID at the Library located in the South Building.
 


Library

Access to Library Services is available to all Distance Learning Students.  You can access the Library by visiting us at the South Building.

To gain access to the online Library from outside the TSTC network  call the Library at 903-923-3238 or email library@marshall.tstc.edu  You will be provided with a user name and password.

The TSTC Marshall Library website contains a wealth of information including Online Catalogs, Online Databases, and the TexShare Program.

  • Online Catalog

    The Online Catalog is a tool to search for a book or other types of materials through an easy search interface.  It can search by author, title, topic and keywords.

  • Online Databases

    The library services give you access to plenty of learning and research tools.  The Learning Resource Center gives you access to book material, magazines, online databases, Internet access, microfiche, newspapers, up-to-date software, audiovisual material and complete assistance to help you find what you seek.  

    The Library also extends your library membership through the TexShare program and can assist you in getting an Interlibrary Loan. 

  • TexShare

    The TexShare program enables TSTC students to be able to extend their library membership to include other libraries that are also members.  You can also visit the TexShare website for more information or follow this link to see the participating libraries.

    In addition, the TSTC Library provides you with Research Guides for Technical Programs and Academic Courses.

  • Technical Programs

    The Research Guides for the diverse technical programs are a good resource for anybody seeking for information related to their field.  It is composed not only with library resources but also good internet sources and links to helpful databases.

  • Academic Courses

    The Research Guides for Academic Courses are very helpful for students looking for a place to start on their research paper.  It will provide tools that will help develop a good paper and places to find information.
     


Testing

Some online instructors require that your exams be proctored.  Once you have received instructions from your professor you, must contact the Department of Distance Learning at (903) 923-3302 to schedule an exam date and time.  Exams will be proctored at the Office of Counseling and Testing (Monday Friday, 8a.m. to 3p.m.) or in the Library (after hours and weekends).
