Referral to Counselor

A student may need to see the counselor if you recognize any of these signs or others:

  • Is the student participating in class?
  • Is student turning in assignments?
  • Is student taking tests?
  • Is the student coming to tutoring?
  • Is the student asking for help in class or outside of class?
  • How well is the student adjusting to the college environment?
  • Is the student involved in any activities outside of the college?
  • Is the student's living arrangement conducive to success?
  • Does the student have supportive relationships?
  • Does the student have problems with childcare?
  • Is the student having financial problems?
  • Does the student have transportation?
  • Does the student have a sickness/illness?
  • Do you suspect the student is abusing alcohol or drugs?
  • What is the student's daily routine or work schedule, etc.?
  • Does student seem uninterested in activities?
  • Is the student beginning to struggle, when they were once succeeding?
  • Does the student become belligerent or avoidant when you ask them what is wrong?
  • Has there been a drastic, life-changing event that has recently occurred?
  • Is the student showing signs of depression?
  • Is the student a threat to themselves or to someone else?
