Referral to Counselor
A student may need to see the counselor if you recognize any of these signs or others:
- Is the student participating in class?
- Is student turning in assignments?
- Is student taking tests?
- Is the student coming to tutoring?
- Is the student asking for help in class or outside of class?
- How well is the student adjusting to the college environment?
- Is the student involved in any activities outside of the college?
- Is the student's living arrangement conducive to success?
- Does the student have supportive relationships?
- Does the student have problems with childcare?
- Is the student having financial problems?
- Does the student have transportation?
- Does the student have a sickness/illness?
- Do you suspect the student is abusing alcohol or drugs?
- What is the student's daily routine or work schedule, etc.?
- Does student seem uninterested in activities?
- Is the student beginning to struggle, when they were once succeeding?
- Does the student become belligerent or avoidant when you ask them what is wrong?
- Has there been a drastic, life-changing event that has recently occurred?
- Is the student showing signs of depression?
- Is the student a threat to themselves or to someone else?
