Federal and State Work-Study Program

Work-study programs are designed to stimulate and promote part-time on-campus employment of students, particularly those who need financial assistance. Funds are available to the college to help create job opportunities for eligible students; however, these funds are limited and students must apply early.

In order to better serve our students, faculty, and staff, all Student Worker positions can now be posted on the TSTC Web site under the link for JOBS. By providing the information above, HR will have your open position posted until filled or otherwise closed.

  • Students will be instructed to provide the hiring department/supervisor with a copy of their applications and resume'.
  • Hiring department will submit a Student Work Request Form to HR when a student is selected. Please fill out all the information at the top of the form, including department number.
  • Hiring supervisors will instruct students to bring their drivers license, social security card, and student ID card to HR department.
  • HR will conduct Student Worker Orientation and have students fill out appropriate paperwork before they will be allowed to begin working.
  • Hiring supervisors will be responsible for making sure all information on student worker timesheets is filled out properly and correct before signing.
  • Hiring supervisors must submit termination form with last timesheet in order to terminate student workers.

Department: Learning Success Center

Supervisor: Virginia DeLear

Number of openings: 4

Essential Functions: Serves as a tutor in specific topic areas as well as a leader on campus.

Other Responsibilities: Brings creativity and enthusiasm to academically related projects.

Required Qualifications: Minimum of 3.5 GPA in Subject Field, Strong Communication Skills, Teaching Ability, Team oriented, Enthusiastic, Visionary, Self Starter, Disciplined. Must qualify for financial aid.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience: Enrolled as a full time Student at TSTC Marshall, maintain 3.0 GPA and maintain a 3.5 GPA on course work related to tutoring subject.

Department: Student Activities

Supervisor: OL Kelly

Duties:

  • Flexible work hours between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm
  • Assist in maintaining the Housing Commons (cleaning and decorating)
  • Create signs/banners for events
  • Assisting with intramural sports
  • Decorating Bulletin boards
  • Lift 20 - 50 lbs

Skills Required:

  • Computer skills (MS word, excel, access, Internet)
  • Good communication skills
  • Good customer relations skills
  • Ability to create fliers/banners for campus events
  • Commitment / punctual / reliable

Supervisor: OL Kelly

Duties:

  • Flexible work hours between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm
  • Oversee the day to day activities of the gym
  • Register all patrons into the gym using proper registration procedures
  • Maintain neat appearance and wear proper attire while on duty
  • Logs all maintenance concerns and incident reports in timely manner
  • Properly clean and disinfect all equipment after each use
  • Works when scheduled and adheres to attendance policies
  • Lift 20 - 50 lbs

Skills Required:

  • Ability to multi-task is very helpful to successfully perform duties
  • Computer skills (MS word, excel, access, Internet)

Other requirements: Prefer student worker who has taken Integrated Software Apps I or equivalent to, multitasking, ability to follow through with assignments with minimal supervision; must be reliable and dress professionally, maintain confidentiality and with a focus on customer service.

Duties: Working with students at the Boys and Girls Club in Marshall, Texas. Duties include participating in student activities including tutoring and working with students in the computer lab.

Department: Building/Ground Maintenance

Supervisor: Joel Wallace

Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:

Repairs fences, windows, screens,doors, thresholds, wall surfaces. Operate lawn mowers, and vehicles with hydraulic lift gates and Cleans drains and lines,catch basins, drip inlets, storm sewers. Records time, maintenance due and performed. Repairs asphalt streets and parking lots. Prepares areas for plants,trees, and shrubs.

Other Responsibilities:

Operate lawn vehicles as assigned. : Building maintenance/repair and lawn/landscape projects (mowing and flower bed preparation) and Minor labor loading, unloading, carrying and pushing. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Minor repairs on a daily basis, moderate lifting (30 - 60lbs).
Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, Regional temperature changes, and unpleasant odors

Required Qualifications:

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Department: Residential Life (Housing)

Supervisor: Hubert Staten

Skills Required: Sufficient knowledge of common house cleaning tools and cleaning products. Ability to deal positively and effectively with housing residents and co workers.

Duties: Assist in the preventative maintenance for housing facilities and housecleaning work during occupant turnover. Assist in the necessary repair work and general upkeep of housing facilities.

Other requirements: Must qualify for Work Study, maintain confidentiality, ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Performs other related duties as assigned.
