Welcome Letter

Dear Prospective Student:

Welcome to the Industrial Technology (ITec) Department and thank you for the opportunity to present an exciting career that is a blend of old and new technologies in industry. This program overview is provided to assist you in making an informed decision in your educational career. It is our hope that ITec Program will be that choice.

The ITec Program consists of three two-year associate degrees and two certificates. The three associate degrees are Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Industrial Electrical Technician, and a new Industrial Mechatronics Technician. The two certificates are Introduction to Industrial Maintenance and Combination Welding. Each offers numerous opportunities to become part of the Texas Workforce and a valued employee for the finest companies in America. If you are not sure which associate degree is best for you, then you can decide in your second or third semester. Talk with the ITec Faculty and you can take common courses until you decide which degree is best fit for you.

The instructors of the ITec program are dedicated in providing the necessary educational tools, hands-on experience, and technological skills needed to be successful in the dynamic fields needed in industry today. We have partnered with several industries to help insure that our programs meet the demands of today's employers. Technology is moving into all areas of industry at an alarming rate and skilled technicians are needed now more than ever.

This degree program includes classroom and laboratory instruction that focuses on building experience in many different emerging technologies. These technologies are moving into industry and industry is looking for technicians skilled in these areas. Areas like laser-optical shaft alignment, machinery installation, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting. There are courses in electrical, heating-air conditioning (HVAC), welding, advanced hydraulics and pneumatics and more. ITec students have the opportunity to participate in internships and cooperative programs that allow you to work in industry and get college credit at the same time.

If you have any questions or would like to tour the college facilities, please contact Debra McIntosh, Coordinator of Recruitment, at 903-923-3205 or me. We will be happy to schedule a time to talk with you and discuss your future educational needs.
