Roles & Responsibilities:

As an Industrial Electrical Technician graduate, you can look forward to outstanding career choices. Graduates use their complex skills in a wide range of applications-with installation, repair, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and performance improving techniques. As a graduate of the program, you may hold titles such as electrical maintenance technician, production electrical technician, industrial mechanic, industrial electrician, facilities electrical technician and facilities maintenance technician.

Employers want technicians who can:

  • Understand and troubleshoot complex equipment;
  • Predict and prevent equipment failure;
  • Work safely and follow safety procedures;
  • Work as team members with minimal supervision;
  • Adapt to change; and continue to build their skills.

The Technical Advantage:

As a student in ITec, you will use many types of equipment and software to gain the competitive edge.
These may include:

  • A variety of electrical tools;
  • Specialized instruments like power and harmonics analyzers
  • Ultrasonic and laser alignment systems;
  • Electrical equipment such as digital multi-meters and programmable logic controllers;
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic test devices;
  • Refrigeration pressure and temperature gauges;
  • Welding test equipment; and
  • Hydraulic and maintenance software.

Professional Association:

TSTC maintains close ties with established professionals like those found in organizations including the International Maintenance Institute and the Fluid Power Society, or FPS-the industry contacts that provide peer support and involvement to enhance your career.

Industry Standards:

In addition to holding a degree from TSTC, you can build credibility with industry certifications. For example, FPS Industrial Hydraulic Mechanics Certification can open the door to promotions and higher salaries.
