Welcome Letter Dear Prospective Student: Thank you for your interest in Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) at TSTC Marshall. This program overview is provided to assist you in making an informative decision in a Medical Technology career. It is our hope that BMET will be that choice. The instructors are dedicated in providing the necessary educational tools, hands-on experience, and technological skills needed to be successful in the dynamic field of Biomedical Engineering Technology. To enable the student to carry out the responsibilities and duties of a Biomedical Engineering Technologist, the program provides instruction in mathematical, scientific, and communications skills that allow the graduate to function at a professional level in a modern hospital. The student develops a knowledge of modern electronics and biomedical instrumentation, including the principles on which they work. The Associate of Applied Science Degree program includes classroom and laboratory instruction that focuses on building experience in using traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve biological and medical technology problems to enhance today's healthcare. Responsibilities include working with physicians, therapists and other technicians in the design, construction, implementation and maintenance in a variety of areas, such as: In-patient and rehabilitation hospitals/clinics, Medical diagnostic and therapeutic development and manufacturing, Biopharmaceutical development , Biotech companies, Government agencies, Universities, Consulting and Sales and marketing. Biomedical Engineering Technology students also have the opportunity to participate in internships and cooperative programs with many of our industry partners.
